Course-Related Information

Question Answer

Are both Summer 2021 and Fall 2021 courses available on campus?

We are looking forward to welcoming you to campus. If you are not able to join us on campus, you may be able to begin your studies virtually from home.* Whether you're joining us on campus or online, you'll still get the full University of Hartford experience.

*Subject to University policy, program availability and ongoing disruption caused by COVID-19

Who will teach my online courses?

Your courses will be delivered online by the same instructors who deliver our on-campus courses. All University of Hartford courses are taught by instructors, not teaching assistants.

How will my online courses be conducted?

Your courses will consist of high-quality interactive sessions that include live and recorded video and voice sessions. Some of our courses will be live while some courses can be completed on your own time. Some examples of interactive sessions you may participate in during your course may include:

  • Participating in a live discussion online
  • Watching an online presentation and adding your own video comments or questions
  • Participate in a discussion board on your own time
  • Viewing a lecture and participating in a Zoom meeting with your professor to answer questions

Do I need to be available at a specific time to participate in the course online?

You will be able to access live and recorded sessions, and you will be informed of any required live interactive sessions well in advance so that you can plan ahead. Recorded sessions can be accessed at any time based on your own schedule.

Some interactive sessions may be scheduled to allow you to interact with instructors and other students. When working on group presentations, you will have the flexibility to find a time which is convenient for everyone in the group.

You will be expected to be an active participant in the virtual classroom, to be engaged in the program on a Monday through Friday basis, and to meet the assignment deadlines. All standard classroom rules of behavior and etiquette are expected in the virtual classroom.

How will I be graded during my online courses?

You will be graded in the same manner for your virtual courses as if you were studying on campus.

What is the attendance policy for online classes?

For classes that are held in real-time, attendance may be taken. For both real-time and recorded classes, you are expected to access all of their assigned learning materials in a timely fashion and are expected to complete all assignments, exams, quizzes, and discussions by the deadlines. You check the Blackboard site Mondays through Fridays to ensure you have all information you need to complete your assignments on time.

What materials and what platform will I use for my courses?

We utilize the virtual learning platform Blackboard/Collaborate, which houses course outlines, materials, discussion forums, recorded sessions, collaboration tools, and more. Some of your academic classes may use additional platforms, but most University of Hartford courses use Blackboard/Collaborate, which does not require a VPN. Course materials will be provided online for easy access at your convenience. Our learning management system provides recorded sessions to help you review course material. You will submit all assignments for your courses through this platform.

What tools do I need to start my courses online?

You will need the following resources to support your virtual learning:

  • Textbooks
  • Laptop or PC
  • Internet with good Internet connectivity
  • Webcam (for PC) or laptop camera for interactive discussions
  • Working microphone
  • Time – each course will require a significant time commitment (participation in sessions and online groups, assignments, etc.)

Since I’m studying virtually, is there a tuition discount?

The full tuition price is required for virtual learning at the University of Hartford. Your virtual studies at the University of Hartford are at the caliber of education that you would receive on campus, including working with our UHart faculty members. In addition, you have access to all our student support offices online and our online engagement tools to help you feel a part of UHart’s community while studying online.

IPP students will continue to have access to all student support services online and our engagement tools to help you remain socially engaged with our UHart community while you study online.

Health Information

Question Answer

What is the latest US health guidance on COVID-19?

The official updates from the US government provide the very latest information, including health and travel advice (both for those coming into the country and those travelling abroad) and information on current travel restrictions. This is an evolving situation and advice is being regularly updated.

Read more information on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website .

Are masks required on campus?

The University of Hartford requires all students, employees, and visitors to wear face coverings when in public. When you are not in your personal living space, including in the classroom, you must wear a face covering. Everyone on campus, even if they have been vaccinated, must wear a mask.

Masks are no longer required outside on the University of Hartford's campus.

When you are in a larger setting, like public areas or shared offices, you must wear a mask.

You may remove your face covering if you are working alone in a separate space (for example, cubicles with walls, private offices, etc.). However, you must wear a mask from the time you enter the building until the time you arrive at your cubicle/workstation, and at any time you are leaving your workstation and moving around common areas (e.g., in hallways and stairwells, going to the restroom or break room, etc.).

When operating in larger settings (e.g., areas open to the public, shared offices, or similar settings), you must wear a face covering properly.

What other measures are in place to keep me safe?

All students, employees, and visitors are required to use LiveSafe to complete a COVID-19 screening survey prior to coming to campus. Residential students are required to complete the health screening each day. Commuter students are required to complete the health screening prior to coming to campus.

The University of Hartford’s Health Services has tests available for students who experience COVID-19 symptoms.

What healthcare arrangements are in place if a student becomes ill?

Students often fall ill with everyday colds, coughs and infections – and our staff are well trained to look after any student that is feeling unwell. Given the current situation staff are being extra vigilant.

Please be assured that the US government is well prepared and has put in place infection control measures, and the hospital system is well prepared to manage any further cases should they occur.

If a student falls ill with symptoms that could be coronavirus, they will receive urgent medical attention and will be tested by medical professionals. If the virus is diagnosed, then they will be taken to the nearest appropriate medical facility.
